I feel like I’ve fallen into a fantastical dream. ...
A White Floral Gourmand - heady and indolic, creamy and narcotic narcissus with a gloriously pongy, and yes, chewy beeswax base - SWOON
If I try hard enough I can pick out most of the wonderfully high quality ingredients, but I’m not so interested in dissecting this one - I just want to lounge around all day, reapplying Narcissus Orientalis every couple of hours for the amazing indoles in the opening and the gorgeous pongy little furry animal beeswax dry down.
I feel like I’ve fallen into a fantastical dream; I’m having tea with giant fuzzy bees and pollen dusted butterflies, we’re feasting on nectar and funky, chewy beeswax fresh from the hive. We’re enjoying our spoils so much and, distracted by our orgiastic gluttony, we don’t realise we’re being enveloped by mounds of sweet narcissi, smothered beneath their fragrant, heavy petals. What a wonderful way to go!

So beautiful - Summer love in a bottle. ...
A lovely rich, golden yellow and green smell, a warm summer in a bottle ready to bloom on your skin. I smell linden blossoms and some mimosa, their pollen sticking to pale but richly flavoured, sticky sap like honey, with gentle animalic undertones. There is some fine edible tonka in here too.
Deeply relaxing and soothing, mood enhancing, and sensual, Linden is thought to be an aphrodisiac. A great perfume for summertime love.
Annette’s perfumes have classic forms and a special personal signature; each of them has its own ‘feel’ and texture - I love this about them. To my delight, there is a gorgeous beeswax in the base of many of them and the quality of the natural materials is a joy for any perfume lover to get their nose around - If you like them, you’re going to really like them. For me they are masterful, rounded, thorough and beautiful compositions with no uncomfortable edges to be found anywhere.
Sonnet 18 is yet another Annette Neuffer perfume for my want list.

And for those of us who like a bit of poetry...

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

A must try for classic oriental lovers. ...
This is great! A rich and beautifully blended Oriental. The ‘mellis’ accord is one of the original perfumer's blends used to build classic orientals such as Youth Dew and Opium. Everything in here is smelling seamless to me, although beeswax and patchouli are noticeable in the opening. As it dries down I smell the cocoa and citrus mingling. Taken as a whole this perfume has a warm, spicy amber character with carnation and a sprinkling of tobacco.
This reminds me very much of one of my favourites, Miller Harris Fleur Oriental although Mellis is more rich, natural, has a discernible cocoa note and is a little more juicy. There are shades of Shalimar in here too, although I’m not picking up any leather at all.
It’s an excellent example of an all natural oriental and one I would love to have in my wardrobe.
A must try for Classic Oriental lovers.

Sweet and sparkling particles popping on my skin. ...
Beeswax and patchouli are noticeable in the first blast along with the citrus. Stardust is quite sweet but nowhere near as sweet as candy floss. The name suits the perfume well as it has a dry and effervescent character like tiny popping particles.
It quickly begins to settle into a rich cocoa powder accompanied by all the subtle nuances of the other notes; pollen filled osmanthus, a little earthy patchouli, some ever so slightly pongy beeswax (lovely!) and a dry juiciness that makes your mouth water but it’s not a wet kind of juiciness, if you can imagine that. At this point the texture has a character somewhere between a fuzzy apricot and delicate spun sugar, there is some playfulness between juicy and dry going on in this composition.
It’s all very edible, scrumptious and lighthearted but also has an exciting sensual quality. Delicious and delightful.

An exotic, spicy leather with a piquant, dark tobacco. ...
The tobacco pouch of a saffron and pepper merchant, the supple but strong leather of a book binder. ... These two men are constantly vying for the attention of a vivacious and provocative, spicy skinned dancer who wears red carnations in her hair.
A fair amount of citrus and some lovely clary sage in the opening, then the lively carnation comes forward. Within an hour it’s settled into a spicy leather with a piquant, dark tobacco. All on a subtle base of resins, vanilla, beeswax and a little wood. This is a rich and complex perfume but the considerable peppery spices and zests keep it energetic. Just fantastic.
